Once again, Simone Eckert and her wonderful ensemble carry us off on a journey of discovery that combines the rarely heard with the new in an inspired dialogue. The oldest surviving source for chamber music in Hamburg was published as an anthology in 1607 by the Hamburg council musicians and music publishers Zacharias Füllsack and Christian Hildebrand. It contains 24 lovely Pavanes, also as many Galliards for five voices which stand as testimonies to the high-quality instrumental music in the Hanseatic city. This was strongly influenced in the first third of the 17th century by English musicians such as John Dowland and William Brade, who left their homeland due to political and religious turmoil, pursuing their musical careers on the continent. The three works by young female composers from Hamburg are likely to set a particularly appealing accent to the program - contemporary compositions for period instruments, commissioned by the Hamburger Ratsmusik in 2022, which will now be heard for the first time at the HEINRICH SCHÜTZ MUSIC FESTIVAL after having received their premiere in Hamburg.
